About Fontana View Retreat
Fontana View Retreat earns its name from every angle. Perched above NC-28 between Fontana Dam and the village of Stecoah, this recently upgraded 4-bedroom home delivers sweeping views of Fontana Lake and the ridgeline of Great Smoky Mountains National Park from multiple balconies — the kind of panorama that makes guests stop mid-sentence when they step outside. Lisa drove British sports cars up the driveway and still called the view worth every bit of the effort.
The home is designed for large families and groups. Four bedrooms plus a sleeper sofa and futon give genuine flexibility for twelve, and the layout keeps everyone together where it counts — a spacious main living area, a well-equipped kitchen, and multiple decks for outdoor gathering. A hot tub with lake views handles the evenings. Two fire pit options give the group a choice: the covered wood-burning fire pit shelter in the front yard, with a convenient shelf for keeping drinks and s’mores supplies close at hand, or the gas fire pit on the back deck for effortless outdoor ambiance. Lisa’s group of nine especially loved the gas fire pit, grill, hot tub, and the time spent outside on the decks.
The location between Fontana Dam and Stecoah on NC-28 makes Fontana View Retreat a natural base camp for the western Smoky Mountains — the Cherohala Skyway, Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Tail of the Dragon, Tsali trails, and the NOC are all easily accessible. Bryson City and Robbinsville are both within comfortable reach for dining and supplies.

Good to Know
Getting Here: The road to Fontana View Retreat is paved for the steep section, then transitions to gently sloping gravel to the parking area. AWD or 4WD is recommended, particularly in wet or winter conditions. Low-clearance vehicles may have difficulty with the steep paved section and low trailer hitches may bottom out and drag on the transition from the road to the driveway, so trailers are not recommended — plan accordingly. Plenty of parking is available in front of the cabin. Exact directions will be provided after booking.
Food Delivery: Food delivery services do not reach this location. We strongly recommend a full grocery run before heading up — Robbinsville is approximately 20 minutes away.
Insects & Wildlife: Fontana View Retreat is located in a forested mountain setting. Like all cabins in the woods, occasional insects or small wildlife are part of mountain living. Any pest concerns are handled promptly by our management team.
Pets: This property is not pet-friendly. No exceptions.
